Planning Authorities Should Not Have Responsibility for Maintenance of Sustainable Drainage, says POS

Date: 7/11/2014

Following the DCLG consultation on Delivering Sustainable Drainage Systems planning authorities are set to assume a range of responsibilities from spring 2015.

Mike Kiely, chair of the POS Board and a fromer President, told a Planning reporter that while POS members welcome scrapping plans for a separate consenting system, the responsibility for ongoing maintenance is "another burden on the planning system" that could slow it down. As part of the broader drainage infrastructure network, SuDS should be kept up by drainage authorities, Kiley believes, just as the highway authorities look after roads.
