POS REACTS STRONGLY TO NEW PLANNING APPLICATION TARGETS

Date: 11/4/2008

In response to the announcement that English councils have three years to meet revised targets in processing planning applications following objectives introduced this week Phil Kirby, Senior Vice President of the Planning Officers Society said, I would question how CLG has arrived at the targets, in the absence of any consultation with those responsible for delivering the service. Given the potential reduction in numbers of applications going through the system as a consequence of the householder permitted development review, is it feasible that an 80% determination rate can be achieved within the statutory timescales for what effectively will be the more complex proposals.

The Society, which represents the most senior planning professionals in local government, has not been consulted over the new arrangemnts.
