PGS IS A DISAPPOINTMENT SAYS PLANNING OFFICERS SOCIETY

Date: 8/12/2006

In an initial response to the recently released consultation on the Planning Gain Supplement the Planning Officers Society has expressed some concern as to its content.

The Society welcomes the opportunity provided by the consultation, however, it is disappointed with the Government's decision to move forward with its proposals to implement the PGS and not pursue tariffs.

Phil Kirby, for POS, said “The suggestion that 30% of revenues raised will be diverted 'to the regions' is far too high and fails to recognise the need for local accountability.  Innovative use of the tariff approach, as in Milton Keynes and Ashford, should be supported as a viable alternative to delivering much needed local infrastructure if it can be demonstrated that this raises more revenue than a national system of PGS.”
