New Coastal Concordat Welcomed by POS

Date: 14/11/2013

A new coastal concordat aims to put an end to overlaps between regulators, duplication of information requirements, and delays to economically important coastal developments.

Philip Ridley, POS Convenor for its Rural Planning & Coastal Topic Forum, said "this is a good start but the proof of the pudding will be in the actual working. There are a number of early adopters to seek to work through its practical implementation."

The government believs that ports, marina builders, and other coastal developers will benefit from a streamlined approvals process and reductions in red tape thanks to the new agreement between regulatory bodies. The POS view is that anything that can sign post and simplify the smooth progress for development in the coastal zone is to be welcomed.
