Need For Housing Standards Planning Guidance Questioned by POS

Date: 22/8/2013

The DCLG has announced that a set of 'nationally described stanfards' for housebuilding would be set out in a new planning policy statement to limit the amount of standards imposed by councils on housebuilders.

John Silvester, Spokesperson for the Society, said "it seems that changes to the Building Regulations could take too long so new planning guidance is mooted to put something in place relatively quickly."

Silvester added, "why the planning system should be burdened further by matters many feel are better left to Building Regs, as we await the results of Taylor's simplification of guidance, the irony is palpable."
