It's About Time Local Fee Setting Was Introduced, Says POS

Date: 29/2/2012

'Problems' with the planning system were described as a 'blockage' slowing economic growth during a cabinet meeting on 28th February, a spokesman for Number 10 has confirmed.

John Silvester, Spokeperson for POS, told Planning magazine "it seems that Number 10 believes over-restrictive planning laws are one of several key areas slowing growth; they really ought to let local authorities establish their own fees and let them crack on with enabling development".

Mike Holmes, the Society President, said "local planning authorities will not be able to help meet the Government's objectives for planning reform if they do not have sufficient resources, and a lack of a decision about the introduction of local fees will continue to hurt us."
