The Planning Officers Society (POS) has today released the long awaited “Policies for Spatial Plans: Consultation Draft” which provides guidance on the policies required in the new style plans under the reformed planning system.
The guide is the work of POS with joint funding from ODPM and LGA, and has gained support from the RTPI, CABE and PINS. The Guide provides a clear indication of the likely policy content of a Local Development Framework and is seen as complementary to the forthcoming ODPM guides that will deal with the process of preparing plans.
Steve Clark, of the Planning Officers Society, acted as the Chairman of the Steering Group that prepared the Guide. Steve is adamant that this document is only the start of the process, “It’s a consultation draft to get feedback from users before the final version is published in the New Year. The target audience is the policy planning team in local planning authorities, and I hope all will play a part in providing observations on the draft.”
The Guide is published on the POS website where it will be updated with the experience of users and provide website links to local authority users. It is also intended to set up a 'hotline' to deal with queries from LPAs. In addition, a printed copy will be posted to every Local Planning Authority in England and to other potential users.
Publication of the Guide is part of the Society’s “Making it Work” campaign for the implementation of the new planning act.
