Conservative Party Manifesto Pledge to have Target for Brownfield Land Development is Contrary to Spirit of Localism, says Silvester

Date: 14/4/2015

Responding to a Local Government Chronicle reporter John Silvester, Communications Manager for POS, said "The requirement in the Conservative Party manifesto for local authorities to have a register of brownfield land and to ensure that 90 per cent of suitable brownfield sites have planning permission by 2020 will require an amendment to the NPPF."

Currenly the NPPF states that local planning authorities may continue to consider the case for setting a locally appropriate target for the use of brownfield land.

"Such an amendment is contrary to the spirit of localism" suggested Silvester. "But if the Conervatives get back into Goverment they would be at liberty to make such changes" Silvester added.
