Chancellorís Autumn Statement Welcomed by POS, But With an Eye to the Detail

Date: 2/12/2011

In response to George Osborne's Autumn 2011 statement John Silvester, Spokesperson for the Planning Officers Society, commented that there are a number of features to be welcomed.

John said "in particular, any improvements to the planning appeals process to make it faster and more transparent are to be welcomed" and with regard to the £5bn infrastructure boost John added "the ability to borrow against future CIL receipts is a welcome addition for those authorities where this can make a significant contribution to national infrastructure."

The intended implementation of the Penfold Review (of which POS played a part) will ensure the many and varied consent regimes operate in the most flexible and simplified way possible; John said, "POS will be seeking a meeting with BISS and DCLG to work out how these changes are to come about".

John concluded by saying "we do, however, wait to see the detail of the proposals in the intended consultations before being able to comment further."
