Tardy plan makers should progress to public timetable

Date: 1/2/2018

Planning magazine reports that fifteen English councils named by the government as tardy plan-makers had until this week to persuade communities secretary Sajid Javid that he need not intervene. Some have either made or committed to tangible progress, which experts say will be necessary to avoid intervention. Others have not

Catriona Riddell, strategic planning specialist at the Planning Officers' Society, which represents local authority planners, said: "Thanet is clearly a frontrunner [for intervention], but I suspect so is York where there is clearly no political appetite to take a sound plan forward. My understanding is that Javid is looking for a commitment [from LPAs] to progressing a plan with a public timetable setting this out."
