Letwin review welcomed

Date: 14/12/2017

Planning magazine reports that Chancellor Philip Hammond has commissioned former minister for government policy Oliver Letwin to undertake an "urgent" review into the disparity between the number of homes built and the amount of residential permissions granted. Letwin has been asked provide an interim report in time for the chancellor's spring statement and final policy recommendations for the 2018 Budget.

David Evans, a former President and a current board member of the Planning Officers Society, welcomed the review: "There is evidence to say developers sit on land. It's the biggest cost variable in the construction of housing, and they can get an advantage from watching it appreciate in value."
