Big rise in examination fees for infrastructure development using 2008 Act route

Date: 13/4/2017

A big rise in examination fees will probably deter applicants from using the Planning Act 2008 route to secure infrastructure consent, says Planning magazine.

It had always been the government's intention to move to full cost recovery. "I don't think anyone is arguing against cost recovery as an appropriate objective," said POS NSIP subject specialist Michael Wilks.

"Also, PINS' pre-application service, which is quite comprehensive, remains free of charge. There is now a greater financial incentive to resolve as many issues as possible before submitting an application to increase the chances that it can be dealt with by fewer inspectors" commented Wilks.
