In response to last Friday's Appeal Court decision on demolitions John Silvester, Society Spokesperson, told Planning magazine "The implications of this ruling are immense. It is not just proposed extensive demolitions, such as for Housing Market Renewal (Pathfinder) Initiative areas, or proposals for demolition of listed buildings and buildings in conservation areas that may need Environmental Impact Assessment; LPAs will have to assess each and every proposed demolition to determine whether or not it will have significant effects on the environment and thus be subject to the EIA process. Authorities could be swamped."
Phil Kirby, Vice President Emeritus, added "this unfortunately runs counter to the drive for de-regulation, and adds a further burden to local planning authorities in considering non-fee paying applications, at a time when budgets are being cut."
