The Network has a wide range of key activities.

  • What does the network do?
    • offer advice, disseminate information and monitor key developments in planning policy.
    • consider, develop and formulate policy positions for the Planning Officers Society on a range of planning policy issues, including housing and transportation.
    • support the work of the LGA on planning policy and spatial planning issues.
    • working with the Policy Manager, prepare Planning Officer Society responses to government consultations on national planning policy.
    • advise on, and seek to influence, European, national, regional and local practice and policy guidance through liaison with DCLG, the PINS, the LGA and other organisations.
    • explore, discuss and disseminate information on currrent issues affecting spatial plans at the international, European, national, regional and local levels.
    • commission studies and research on good practice in planning policy and spatial planning and to disseminate these to planning bodies.
    • encourage the application of e-government to the spatial planning process.
    • be the primary source of advice for the Planning Officers Society on spatial planning matters.
    • be a point of contact for the media on planning policy and spatial planning issues.
