Renewable UKís draft Planning Guidance for Small Wind Turbines: A Good Practice Guide

Date: 20/4/2011

The document is useful in terms of setting out key issues for wind energy technology which is welcomed. However, the Planning Officers Society cannot give endorsement to guidance for planners by a trade body.   We have circulated the document to our members, compiled their comments on it and we hope that you will find them useful for your next draft of the document:

The document should make clear that this is produced by a trade organisation.  The current title of the document could lead to misunderstandings. Rather than refer to it as "planning guidance" perhaps it should be titled as "information and advice on small wind turbines installations".

While the document covers a lot of issues, and provides some useful technical information, it underplays legitimate concerns that decision makers or the community may have.
