POS has been notified by DCLG of the intended changes to the planning practice guidance relating to SuDS.
These are to be shared at the capacity building workshops being run by the Planning Advisory Service. These kick-off next week and run to 12 March - details.
DCLG are aiming to upload the new guidance onto the planning practice guidance website later in March after any feedback at the workshops. In the meantime, if you have any questions about next steps or the draft guidance do let DCLG know Peter Ellis
The Government's response to the consultation on using the planning system to deliver SuDS said they would base the planning guidance on the Defra national standards. DCLG have done this by incorporating the approach in the national standards into the planning guidance where appropriate.
As some of the areas addressed by the standards are already covered by planning policy / guidance they have not sought to replicate those and some, because they are technical in nature, will be hosted by Defra separate from the planning guidance but they are signposted through the guidance. This is an approach used elsewhere in the planning practice guidance suite to help make the guidance accessible to the general public.
POS was opposed to the planning sysytem being used to be responsible for SuDS:
