Dear Nick

As the Beta launch of the Government Planning Practice Guidance approaches, I wanted to write to you to set out my and the review group's views as to how this stage of the review of planning guidance has gone, and what more we believe there remains to do to achieve the ambition we put forward in our report last December

Following our review of the existing 7,000 pages of planning practice guidance owned or co-owned by DCLG, we published our report with 18 recommendations. We said that in the future planning practice guidance should be clear, accessible and up-to-date, and easily available on a web-based resource which should be actively managed by DCLG. We were very pleased that after a consultation period the Government accepted almost all these recommendations, and that we were invited to act as a challenge panel in this next stage of the guidance review to ensure that the draft guidance text meets the necessary requirements.
