LGA Housing Advisers Programme

Date: 14/8/2017

The LGA has launched the Housing Advisers Programme, a new locally-led programme to help councils meet the housing need of their local area. The programme funds an expert to support a local authority project to deliver homes, reduce homelessness, or generate savings or revenues.

The housing market is broken, and needs fixing. As housebuilders, place-shapers, guardians to the vulnerable and as democratically accountable to communities, local government is at the heart of the solution. The LGA wants to promote council innovation and facilitate the capacity of local authorities to meet local housing need.

The Housing Advisers Programme funds an independent adviser for up to 20 days, offering bespoke expert support to local authorities for a specific project to deliver homes, reduce homelessness, or generate savings or revenues. The adviser can support on housing, planning or homelessness projects and may provide assistance on anything from scoping out the project to identifying skills need, technical expertise, relationship development to project delivery.

Participating local authorities will be asked to take part in learning events and to write up their experiences of the project and its impact on their area for the benefit of sharing the learning across the sector.

Councils or groups of councils are invited to submit an application to the programme. Expressions of interest are welcome before 12 September 2017.
