Encouraging Development on Sites with Planning Permission - Advice Note by POSE for LGA

Date: 6/11/2012

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 reduced the time period for commencing the development from five years to three year; this was a key element of the Government's agenda for speeding up the planning system. The provisions introduced powers which allowed for the reform and speeding up of the plans system and an increase in the predictability of planning decisions.

As a result it is particularly important to ensure that development is properly commenced so that the planning permission does not expire, particularly where the developer does not wish to proceed immediately to complete the development.

The LGA requested POS Enterprises to provide an advice note to assist their campaigns.
